The Majeri Award

In November 2023, The School of Journalism and Strategic Communication of Ball State University granted me this Honor. The University host this ceremony annually and describes the Majeri as an award that recognizes innovation and leadership in the profession of graphic journalism. It may be awarded to a publication staff or person for creating a body of work or a singular piece that demonstrates innovation in news design or graphics reporting.

Past recipients of the award include Author and Lecturer, Alberto Cairo; Washington Post Graphics Director, Chiqui Esteban; USA Today Graphics Director, Javier Zarracina; Private consultant and Author, Mario Garcia; Design Theorist and Author, Nigel Holmes; among other prominent figures of visual journalism.

Malofiej Awards

I obtained 41 medals of the Malofiej Awards, including three gold medals and the Special Award Miguel Urabayen to the Best Map. The University of Navarra hosts annually in Pamplona, Spain these awards which are widely considered as the Pulitzers for infographics.

As of April 2025, I had obtained 182 awards from the Society For News Design (SND) on print and digital formats. In 2022 I was awarded the title of “World’s Best Designer” during the 43rd edition in relation to my work portfolio with Reuters Graphics in the digital design category. Information is Beautiful Awards (IIBA)

The Awards were set up in 2012 by David McCandless, journalist and datavisualizer of Information is Beautiful, in collaboration with Aziz Cami, the then Creative Director at Kantar. The awards went on hiatus for 2020 and 2021 due to the global pandemic and have been relaunched in 2022 under the leadership of the Data Visualization Society. I have been honored with medals in both of the ‘eras’ of the contest.
